Your guide to donating household items in Harrisburg & West Shore

Looking for a place to donate household items you are decluttering from your home? Want to make a difference in the lives of our community? Here are some fantastic local organizations that benefit folks right here in Harrisburg, West Shore and the surrounding communities in Central PA.

These organizations all offer much needed services for people in our area dealing homelessness, food pantries, art supplies for kids in the hospital, hardships and more. Here are great local organizations and the items they need.


Caitlin's Smiles 
Caitlin's Smiles collects brand new, unopened craft supplies to create bags for children in the hospital or emergency room. Some of the most needed craft items include: glue sticks, pony beads, ziplock bags, play dough, crayons, foam sheets or stickers, fun pencils, word search, sketch pads, & more. Community Aid
We are a Faith Based Non-Profit 501 (C)(3) Corporation/Charity with the primary purpose of raising funds for distribution to local schools, churches, synagogues, temples and non-profit charitable organizations through our store locations. Some of the most needed items include: pots, pans, decorative items, artwork, DVDs, bedsheets and curtains, men/women/kids clothes (new or used), and more. CLICK HERE for more info.


Mission Central 
Mission Central is the mission warehouse of the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. Along with our satellite operations called “HUBS”, we supply humanitarian goods and logistical services to hundreds of different ministry and social service agencies. Some of the most needed items include: clothing, computers & printers, furniture, household items, nutrition drinks and more. CLICK HERE for more info.


New Hope Ministries
New Hope Ministries' mission is to help low-income families in our community receive the food, cleaning supplies or personal hygiene items they need help with. The Back Pack supplemental nutrition program is run in partnership with local school districts where easy to prepare and nutritious food is given to low-income children at the end of each week when school meals are unavailable and is just one way New Hope Ministries meets the needs of our community. Some of the most needed items include: canned protein, canned veggies, applesauce, ketchup, peanut butter, shampoo, laundry detergent, diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products & more. Operation Wildcat 
With the support of the school board, district administration and staff, Operation Wildcat is working to help to pool the Mechanicsburg Area School District community resources to help local families in need on an on-going basis. Some of the most needed items include: back to school supplies, clothing, furniture in good condition, books, costumes, bikes & more. CLICK HERE for more info.


Shalom House
Shalom House is a non-denominational 501c(3) providing shelter for women and children at several locations in the City of Harrisburg. Programs include emergency shelter, transitional housing for women, to include female veterans. Most needed items include: towels, gift cards (Target, Walmart, Giant), diapers, wipes, baby bottles, blankets, hand sanitizer, paper towels, cleaning supplies and more. CLICK HERE for more info.


Carlisle Area Family Life Center
The Carlisle Area Family Life Center is a crisis pregnancy and family resource center located in downtown Carlisle and serves clients from Cumberland, Perry, Franklin, Dauphin and northern York counties. All of our services are free and we help anyone who walks through the door. We offer free pregnancy tests, first trimester ultrasounds, diapers, formula, baby supplies, maternity and children’s clothing. We gratefully accept gently used strollers, pack-n-plays, swings, cribs and other baby items.  We are always in need of diaper donations-especially sizes 4, 5, and 6. CLICK HERE for more info.
