Ready, Set, Explore… and Maybe Tire the Kids Out for a Nap: A Free Family Event That Combines STEM, Storytime, and Sanity-Saving Fun
Saturday, May 31 | 10 AM – 1 PM | WITF Public Media Center, Harrisburg
Let’s face it: summer is coming, and with it, the chaotic cocktail of sticky popsicles, sunburned shoulders, and children who no longer recognize bedtime as a concept.
But fear not, fellow parents—WITF and Pennon Education are here to help you Slide Into Summer with an event that’s one part learning, one part creativity, and one part please-go-run-around-so-you’re-tired-later.
Here’s What’s Going Down (besides your patience in July):
STEM in a Box? Yes please.
The first 50 families to check in get a FREE educational activity kit. That’s right—you might leave with something your kids will voluntarily choose over another episode of Blippi.
Every kid gets a FREE book!
That’s right—each child will walk away with a copy of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (picture book or young reader edition), so you can replace at least one night of Roblox with some inspiration and actual sentences.
Go green without packing the car.
Step into the new Digital Creator Studio and teleport your family to a tropical beach, a peaceful park, or anywhere that doesn’t have your laundry pile. It’s a green screen experience designed to impress—and confuse—grandparents everywhere.
Code the Ants. Build a Bee Hotel. Race Robots.
It’s like if summer camp and a science fair had a really fun baby. Kids will code Ozobot ants to devour digital picnics (finally, ants that clean up), race waterproof Spheros, and learn how to support pollinators by making cozy bee hotels.
Bonus: you can brag to other parents that your kid built a windmill out of paper and coded something before lunch.
Every activity is inspired by books.
Which means not only will your child grow their imagination, they’ll also think they’re in a PBS Kids crossover episode.
