Why Your Tween or Teen Will Think Gamut Theatre’s Frankenstein is the Coolest Thing Since TikTok Got Emojis

Parents, let’s be real—getting your tween or teen off the couch and into a cultural experience that doesn’t involve WiFi can be... a challenge. But what if I told you there’s a live show happening in Harrisburg that’s dark, thrilling, and packed with big, existential questions—basically, a Gothic sci-fi nightmare with major main-character energy?

Enter Gamut Theatre’s production of Frankenstein (March 15-30), where science, philosophy, and a terrifying man-made monster collide in a story so intense, even your too-cool-for-everything teenager will be on the edge of their seat.

Age rating: 12+. Subject matter includes scene depicting sexual violence.

Why Frankenstein is Perfect for Tweens and Teens

1️⃣ It’s Creepy, but Make It Intellectual.
Forget the old-school horror movie version. This Frankenstein—adapted by Nick Dear—is gritty, psychological, and deeply unsettling. It’s not about a green guy with neck bolts; it’s about humanity, morality, and the consequences of playing God. Basically, it’s what happens when AP Biology meets a horror movie... and your kid will eat it up.

2️⃣ Role-Swapping Madness.
Every other night, the actors switch roles between Victor Frankenstein and The Creature—giving audiences a chance to see two completely different versions of the same story. This isn’t just theater—it’s a social experiment in identity and power. (Also, your teen can flex on their friends with a “Yeah, I saw both versions” humblebrag.)

3️⃣ It’s Giving Black Mirror Vibes.
Mary Shelley basically invented the "what if science went TOO FAR" genre, and her questions—Can we create life? Should we? Who decides what makes us human?—are more relevant now than ever. If your kid loves dystopian novels, The Matrix, or questioning reality at 2 AM, Frankenstein will be their jam.

4️⃣ Discounts Mean You Can Afford Snacks After.
Tickets are “Pick Your Seat, Pick Your Price”, with recommended pricing at $39 but options for $27 or $15 (aka, what you probably spent at Starbucks this morning). And if your teen insists on seeing the other version of the show, they can bring their first ticket and get a $10 balcony seat for round two. That’s two nights of entertainment for less than a Friday night DoorDash order.

Final Thoughts (AKA: Convincing Your Teen to Go)

βœ… Frankenstein has monsters, moral dilemmas, and moments that’ll make them question everything.
βœ… It’s dark academia meets sci-fi horror (without homework).
βœ… Bonus points for extra credit if their teacher is cool.
βœ… It’s cheaper than taking them to the movies, and they might actually text you “that was cool” afterward.

So, parents—round up your tweens, teens, and reluctant Gen Z philosophers, and head to Gamut Theatre for a mind-blowing, spine-tingling, and possibly life-altering night at the theater. Just don’t blame me if they suddenly want to major in bioethics.

When visiting events and local businesses, be sure to tell them Macaroni KID sent you... and don't forget to tell all your friends!
