Lower Paxton Foundation Secures Grant to Build a 4th of July Tradition for Generations π
If there’s one thing I love more than fireworks, parades, and patriotic-themed desserts, it’s watching our community come together to create something truly special. And today? We did just that.
This afternoon, I had the honor of standing alongside the Lower Paxton Foundation at Heroes Grove in brisk, wintery weather (a vibe very different from the warm July celebration we were planning for). But the chill in the air did nothing to dampen the energy as a marketing grant was officially awarded to help grow what is quickly becoming one of our region’s most beloved traditions—the Independence Weekend Family Celebration.
And let me tell you—this is BIG.
Not just “oh wow, free food truck samples” big. More like ‘my kids will tell their kids about this someday’ big.
Here’s the thing—traditions don’t just happen. They are built by communities who care. They start small, grow with each passing year, and before you know it—they become the stories our kids tell their kids.

My Kids Came to Celebrate, and They Did It Their Way
Now, I don’t attend historic moments solo. Oh no, I brought my own personal entourage—a.k.a. my kids. And they each added their own unique energy to the occasion:
Baby Raina was tucked snugly in the baby carrier, all warm and cozy, probably dreaming of a future where she doesn’t have to be dragged to outdoor events in the cold.
Ridley was running like mad, proving that no amount of historic significance can compete with a wide-open space just begging to be sprinted across. (The Revolutionary War re-enactors of 2026 better be ready.)
River was smiling and saying "cheese" like a pro, soaking up the cameras and attention like she was born for the spotlight. (Honestly, she might have a future in politics—or at least event planning.)
Rhys, as always, was making new friends and leaving an impression on everyone he met. The number of people who left that event with a new best friend (and a heart full of joy) is currently unmeasurable.
Roland, thanks to the Lower Paxton Foundation, wasn't just
watching history happen—he gets to be part of it.
This Grant is More Than a Check—It’s an Investment in Traditions
As local leaders, decision-makers, and community members gathered, you could feel the excitement in the air. People shared stories about where they were for America’s Bicentennial in 1976, reminiscing about parades, fireworks, and celebrations that have lived on in their memories for nearly 50 years.
And as I stood there, baby strapped to my chest, watching my kids experience this moment in real time, I had one thought—THIS is their Bicentennial.
One day, my kids will tell their kids, "I was there when our community came together to build something incredible for America’s 250th birthday."
That’s what today was about. This check wasn’t just a donation—it was a commitment to making history.
More Fun, More History, More Magic for Families
So what does this funding mean for the Independence Weekend Family Celebration at Brightbill Park in 2025?
It means we’re going bigger, better, and more fun than ever.
More carnival-style games
(because winning one rubber duck is never enough).
More arts & crafts stations
(perfect for when the sugar rush needs a quiet moment).
More live music & performances
(because nothing gets a crowd pumped like a patriotic singalong).
More living history experiences
(so kids can hear real stories from real veterans).
More food, more fun, and an even bigger community impact.
And this is just the 249th birthday warm-up—because next year? It’s America’s 250th. And we’re going all out.
Be Part of the Story—Join Us This Year!
So here’s the deal. Come this year. Be part of the magic before it becomes THE event of 2026.
Join us on Saturday July 5, 2025, at Dauphin County Heroes Grove, 5010 Commons Drive, Harrisburg, PA (Brightbill Park).
Celebrate the 249th birthday of the USA.
Make the memories that will set the stage for 2026.
Because next year, when the entire country is celebrating 250 years, you and your kids won’t just be spectators—you’ll already be part of something bigger.
This isn’t just another summer event. It’s history in the making. Let’s build this tradition together.
When visiting events and local businesses, be sure to tell them Macaroni KID sent you... and don't forget to tell all your friends!
