Spring Adventures at The Hershey Story: Chocolate, History & Hands-On Fun

From Ancient Chocolate to Girl Scout Time Travel—Spring Events at The Hershey Story

Parents, if you’re looking for a reason to get the kids out of the house (besides the fact that they keep “experimenting” with slime recipes that somehow always end up on your carpet), we’ve got the perfect excuse: The Hershey Story Museum’s spring homeschool sessions and Junior Girl Scout badge workshop!

Whether your kid is an aspiring historian, a budding scientist, or just a very dedicated chocolate enthusiast (who isn’t?), these interactive programs will keep them learning and entertained. Bonus? You get to feel like an overachieving homeschool or scout parent without having to plan an elaborate at-home lesson.

Here’s what’s happening this March at The Hershey Story Museum in Hershey, PA.

🍫 Homeschool Sessions: “Food of the Gods: Chocolate in Mesoamerica”

πŸ“… Tuesdays in March (March 4, 11, 18, 25, 2025)
πŸ•™ 10:00 AM & 1:00 PM Sessions Available
πŸ’° $17 per person (ages 3+), Free for ages 2 and under
🎟 Advance tickets required; seating is limited

Let’s be real: Chocolate has always been the real MVP of human civilization. Before it became the delicious, kid-bribing tool it is today, chocolate was a prized treasure in Mesoamerican cultures. In this hands-on homeschool session, kids (and parents!) will:

βœ”οΈ Drink Like a Maya Noble – Taste an authentic chocolate drink similar to the one the Maya enjoyed (spoiler: no sugar, but plenty of history).
βœ”οΈ Trade Like an Aztec Merchant – See how much you can “buy” with a pod of cocoa beans (spoiler: not nearly enough to make up for how many Legos your kid has lost).
βœ”οΈ Decode Ancient Hieroglyphs – Solve a puzzle using Maya writing (perfect for the little archaeologist in your life).
βœ”οΈ Make a Chocolate Treat – Because all great lessons should end with dessert.

Plus, homeschool admission includes access to the Museum Experience and an educational scavenger hunt through the exhibits. Expect to spend about 90 minutes to two hours enjoying everything.

πŸ“ Recommended for grades 2-8, but all ages welcome!

πŸ“² Register online at HersheyStory.org – tickets sell out fast!

πŸ… Junior Girl Scout “Playing the Past” Badge Workshop

πŸ“… Saturday, March 22, 2025
πŸ•€ 9:30 AM – 12:15 PM
πŸ’° $15 per Junior Scout & $15 per Leader/Adult Chaperone

Girl Scouts, history buffs, and parents who love a well-organized activity—this one's for you! In this Junior Girl Scout badge workshop, scouts will step back in time to see Hershey through the eyes of girls and women from the past.

πŸ”Έ Explore Museum Exhibits – Walk through history and discover the many stories of Hershey’s past.
πŸ”Έ Play Old-Fashioned Games – Spoiler: No iPads were involved in 19th-century entertainment.
πŸ”Έ Create Two Handmade Crafts – Because every good time-traveling adventure needs a souvenir.

At the end of the session, Junior Scouts will earn the "Playing the Past" badge—and parents will earn a well-deserved coffee break.

πŸ“² Register online at HersheyStory.org under the "Scouts Program" tab.

Why Your Family Needs to Go

βœ” It’s educational, but in a “wow, this is cool” way.
βœ” It involves chocolate. Enough said.
βœ” It’s a great way to break up the school week or get that scout badge checked off.
βœ” You’ll finally have an activity where no one is asking for more screen time.

So, parents—consider this your invitation to an engaging, history-filled, chocolate-powered spring adventure. Share this with a fellow homeschool or scout parent and make a day of it!
