Here’s a fun fact: If you’ve ever thought “neurodiverse” was just a fancy way of saying “neurodivergent,” you’re not alone. But here’s the twist – they’re not the same thing! Let’s break it down and explore why Neurodiverse Network Community Center is the perfect place for everyone, no matter what kind of brain you’ve got under the hood.
Neurodiverse vs. Neurodivergent: A Tale of Two Terms
Think of neurodiversity as the big, inclusive umbrella. It’s the idea that brains come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and wiring – and they’re all worth celebrating. Neurodiversity includes everyone: from the super-organized spreadsheet lovers to the creative chaos enthusiasts, and yes, the neurodivergent thinkers too (looking at you, ADHD hyper-focusers who just lost track of time reading this).
Now, neurodivergent refers specifically to brains that function differently from what’s considered “typical.” This could include autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. Basically, if brains were ice cream flavors, neurodivergent folks are the double-fudge brownie chunks in a world of vanilla.
At Neurodiverse Network, we believe every brain brings something sweet to the table, and our programs are about building connections, celebrating diversity, and making space for everyone – because let’s be honest, vanilla is boring without the toppings.
What’s Happening at Neurodiverse Network?
Here’s a sneak peek at the fun, inclusive, and welcoming events coming up:
✨ Friday, Jan 10: Sensory Play Group (9:30–10:30 AM)
Caregivers of kids under 5, this is your chance to connect with others while your little ones explore a sensory-rich, inclusive play environment. Swap tips, share stories, or just hang out – quiet corners included! Bonus: It’s socially acceptable to show up in yoga pants.
✨ Friday, Jan 10: Lego & Game Night (5–7 PM)
Whether you’re a master builder or a Monopoly mogul, bring the whole family for this monthly hangout. Got a game or Lego project you’ve been dying to share? Bring it along, or dive into our library of options. Warning: family board games may result in extreme laughter or mild sibling rivalry.
✨ Saturday, Jan 11: Parents Night Out (5:30–8:30 PM)
Parents, take a break while we entertain the kids! With organized activities and free play, your little ones (ages 5 and up) will have a blast while you enjoy a well-deserved evening off. Snacks provided, fun guaranteed, but alas, no dinner served. Eat first unless you want to be that hangry parent at pickup.
✨ Sunday, Jan 12: Sit & Stitch Club (1–3 PM)
Calling all crafters! Join the Horizons Group for a relaxed afternoon of stitching, knitting, or whatever your creative heart desires. Newbies welcome! Come for the crafting; stay for the laughs and the chance to finally finish that scarf you started last winter.
More Opportunities to Join In
Kids Community Club (Wednesdays, 4:30–6:30 PM)
Kids 6-13 meet weekly to tackle homework, make friends, and engage in community service projects. From litter cleanups to group projects, this drop-off program helps kids learn, grow, and give back. Because nothing says “community spirit” like a group of kids picking up litter and asking, “Why do grown-ups throw trash on the ground?”
New Skill Saturdays
Ever wanted to learn how to sew, 3D print, or garden? Each Saturday, you can dive into a new skill led by an expert or a peer. Check the monthly calendar to see what’s next – because you never know when “I took a 3D printing class” will come in handy at trivia night.
Caregiver Support Group (3rd Tuesdays, 6–7 PM)
Parenting is hard, and we’re here to make it a little easier. Join a nonjudgmental, welcoming group to share the ups and downs, swap resources, or simply sit and listen. No judgment, no politics, and no one will ask why your kid was wearing pajamas to the grocery store last week (we’ve all been there).
Why Join Us?
We’re not just here for neurodivergent folks – we’re here for everyone. Our mission is to foster a space where brains of all kinds feel welcome, respected, and celebrated. So whether you’re looking for a safe sensory playgroup, a supportive community, or just a night off, Neurodiverse Network Community Center has you covered.
Every brain is unique. Every brain is welcome. And every brain will find something to love here.
