On Saturday, July 6th, families can enjoy the 3rd Annual Independence Weekend Family Celebration at Lower Paxton’s Brightbill Park, just behind Hobby Lobby, Joann Fabrics and Dick’s Sporting Goods in Colonial Park. 10:00 A.M. kicks off a brief half hour ceremony with live music and a Salute to the Flags to honor America and those that have served us in the military, emergency responders and community volunteers. Kids, parents and grandparents will love sharing this patriotic celebration and feel pride celebrating our community with friends and neighbors. Wear your red, white and blue!

A dozen community organizations will host free midway carnival games, where kids can compete against each other and against adults. With traditional games like ring toss, plinko, bean bag throw and a duck pond for the toddlers, they can collect tickets and swap them for free prizes.

Kids of all ages will enjoy making their own souvenirs in the free arts and crafts Kids Zone and burn off some energy in the activities area. Pam Jones, Event Chair says, “my grandkids love arts and crafts, it's a chance to sit and relax a bit amidst all the festivities.”
Feeling hungry? There is a variety of food trucks for hamburgers, sausages, BBQ, and desserts. And we didn’t forget the healthy options. Grab a spot at the community tables and enjoy chatting with other families.

Then, let your kids discover living history: veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, The Cold War, Iraq and Afghanistan at the Meet-a-Vet area are ready to share family friendly stories from days-gone-by. What a gift to experience talking with these heroes and learn what it was like when they were barely out of school themselves. Imagine, in 50 years, your kids telling their kids that they meet these men and women. It’s like someone today talking about meeting heroes from the 1800s.

Have you heard the buzz about those "tiny-homes" for homeless vets along the river? Check out a model home, and hear how this local charity is helping veterans get back on their feet. Experience the joy and pride in giving and in supporting those who once so bravely fought for our country.

Macaroni KID Harrisburg and West Shore and the Lower Paxton Foundation will see you there as you start a new family tradition, celebrate our community, our nation, and create lasting family memories on Saturday, July 6th at Independence Weekend Family Celebration.
