The historic Broad Street Market sits at the heart of the Midtown Harrisburg Community and our iconic sign is one of the first things our visitors see.
East Coast winters, however, can be harsh as we all know. Combined with all the normal wear and tear it has endured from constant exposure to the elements, this past winter took a toll on our sign, causing significant damage to its upper half. In addition, when it was originally installed in 1996, the sign featured neon backlighting which is no longer functional.
Even though this project was unexpected, we think it is a great opportunity to rebuild the Broad Street Market’s sign into something stronger, more energy efficient and more special than the original. We’ve engaged a Harrisburg firm who has redesigned our sign to include energy efficient LED lighting, new design elements to reflect current branding of the Market, refurbish the original lettering and increase its overall structural integrity to ensure it lasts for many decades to come. This month our project was approved by the Harrisburg Architectural Review Board and will take approximately four to six weeks to complete once funds have been secured.
The new Broad Street Market Sign project will cost approximately $40,000 and we need your help to move it across the finish line. We’re hoping to raise $25,000 through crowdfunding, so we set up a GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/3fd5375d where you can make a tax-deductible donation to our 501(c3)—whatever you can do will be appreciated! To raise the rest, organizational and corporate sponsorship opportunities are available and you can e-mail us at BSMAinfo@broadstreetmarket.org for more information.
Finally, the Broad Street Market sign means a lot to our community, what does it mean to you? Please tag Broad Street Market on social media (#broadstreetmarketsign) so that your photos can be reposted.
