Hershey Gardens to Host a Spring Homeschool Day on April 28th

Spring Homeschool Day is open to homeschoolers & children are learning virtually from home

April 16, 2021

Birds, bees and plants will be the focus of Spring Homeschool Day, being held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Hershey Gardens, 170 Hotel Road, Hershey, Pa.

Titled “Take Flight,” Spring Homeschool Day is open to homeschoolers and their families, as well as to families whose children are learning virtually from home. For the event, Hershey Gardens has partnered with the eighth annual Community Read. Developed by Longwood Gardens, Community Read brings together community partners, including gardens, museums, conservation organizations and public libraries, to encourage reading for pleasure and conversation.

Storytime will be conducted by representatives from Hershey Public Library and features a read-aloud of “Ruby’s Birds,” the book selected for younger readers for this year’s Community Read. Self-guided activities throughout the Gardens, which focus on bird, insect and plant identification, are also part of Spring Homeschool Day. Additionally, homeschoolers will build a bird nest using items they collect from the Gardens. Staff will be available to answer questions and guide families on activities.

Spring Homeschool Day is $8 per student ages 3 and up and $9 per adult.  Children ages 2 and under are free and do not need a ticket.  To register, please visit and click on the “Events” tab. Registration closes at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021.

Families are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 a.m.  The event is held rain or shine and picnic tables are available for packed lunches.

Masks are required inside all buildings. Masks are required outdoors when social distancing is not possible. The Butterfly Atrium is included in admission; access to the Butterfly Atrium is granted on a first-come, first-served basis upon arrival to Hershey Gardens.
