Dauphin Co Libraries Take Popular Events Virtual for Families

Dauphin County Libraries are offering a variety of storytimes and special events to be held via Zoom during the month of March. Don't miss these great events!


Weekly Events

Born to Read
Mondays, 9:30 - 9:50am, via Zoom
Babies and their caregivers experience songs and stories together to help learn sounds, language, and a love of books. This program is for parents, grandparents, caregivers and their babies, ages birth – 18 months. Registration is required by visiting dcls.org/kidsprograms or calling 717-234-4961 opt. 6. Registrants will be emailed a Zoom invite and further instruction.

Anime Club
Mondays, 4:00 - 5:00pm, attend via Discord
Discuss your favorite anime and manga with other people who like the same thing! This program is for teens, ages 13-18. Visit dcls.org/teenevents or call 717-234-4961 opt. 6 to sign up and receive a Discord link and instructions. A device with a microphone and camera is recommended.

Paws 2 Read 
Mondays, 6:00 - 7:30 pm, via Zoom
Register for a 15-minute time slot to read to a Paws dog by filling out the form at dcls.org/paws. After registering, a Youth Services staff member will provide a time slot, more information, and a Zoom invite. For kids, ages 6-11. A computer or mobile device with a microphone is required to join.

Discord Hangouts: Gaming
Tuesdays, 3:00 - 5:00 pm, via Discord
Game together with The Library and other teens from the community on Discord, a safe communication app, on Tuesdays after school. This program is for teens, ages 13-18. Visit dcls.org/teenevents or call 717-234-4961 opt. 6 to sign up and receive a Discord link and instructions.

Animal Crossing with The Library
Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5:00 pm, via Nintendo Switch
Visit our newest library in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as we gather virtually to play games, exchange items, and hang out on our Library island. Drop in any time between 3:30 and 5:00 pm. Family Storytime
Tuesdays, 6:00 - 6:30 pm, via Zoom
Families will enjoy stories, songs, rhymes, fingerplays and other activities to help their child build skills and be ready to succeed at whatever is next. This program is for families with children of all ages. Registration is required by visiting dcls.org/discoverers or by calling 717-234-4961 opt. 6. Toddler Storytime
Wednesdays, 10:00 - 10:30 am, via Zoom
Toddlers build a foundation for early learning and reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories. Adults learn tips and tricks to continue the learning at home. This program is for toddlers, ages 19-35 months, and their parents or caregivers. Registration is required by visiting dcls.org/kidsprograms or by calling 717-234-4961 opt. 6. Virtual Create Lab
Wednesdays, 4:00 - 4:45 pm, via Zoom
There is plenty of S.T.E.A.M. to explore at home. Bring your own science, tech, engineering, art or math activities and share with others on Zoom. LEGOs and other blocks, experiments, tech gadgets, gaming and art of all kinds can be worked on individually (or simultaneously) in a social, virtual atmosphere. YA Book Club
Wednesdays, 4:00 - 6:30 pm, via Discord
Join us each week to discuss favorite books that fit a monthly theme. The theme of books read will change each month to coincide with The Library’s promotional theme. Twitch: Women of Gaming
Monday (March 8, 15, 22), 6:00 - 7:30 pm, watch on Twitch
Watch librarian Jess as she tries – and possibly fails – at playing a variety of games. Jess will explore several different games made by women and share the background stories behind each game. Head to twitch.tv/dclsteenhangout to watch the action. For tweens and teens, ages 11-14. A twitch account is required to chat, but not required for viewing.

D&D Tutorial (Tweens and Teens)
Thursday, March 11, 6:00 - 7:30 pm, via Zoom
Come clear a dungeon that will teach you the rules of Dungeons and Dragons and allow you to become an adventurer. This program is for tweens and teens, ages 11-18, who have never played Dungeons and Dragons before or want a refresh on Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition. Mindfulness for Teens
