Upper Allen Township invites children and families of all abilities to a dedication ceremony for the new Inclusive Playground at Winding Hills Park East on September 28th at 10:00 am.
The Inclusive Playground at Winding Hills Park East is the first of its kind in Upper Allen Township to incorporate a completely inclusive design style, while providing a safe, accessible and fun environment for children of all abilities to be able to play together. The new playground promotes collaborative play by mixing elements from traditional equipment with gently sloping ramps and wide platforms. Children of all abilities will be able to join others to play at elevation as well as at ground level. The play surface that surrounds the inclusive play equipment is a poured in place safety surface that is certified for use in playgrounds. The surface is firm enough to support mobility aids, but soft enough to provide a safe play surface; offering greater accessibility when compared to other common playground surfaces, such as tan bark or shredded rubber. The last major component of this project is the addition of ADA compliant porous paths around the play areas and up to the parking lot.

The Inclusive Playground was partially funded through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). Grant funding from DCNR provided the Township with an opportunity to construct an inclusive playground for all children to engage in active and social play for many years to come.
