Hands-on House, great info & GIVEAWAY
Hands-on House Children's Museum has always held a sweet spot in my heart. Located in beautiful Lancaster County, Hands-on House has been a place I've been going since I was really little, as in back when it was in the big, gorgeous old house! Now that I have kids of my own, Hands-on House has been a great place for me to take them too.
Hands-on House gives you the perfect setting to take your family to not only play, but to imagine, learn & explore through multiple exibits that encourage touching & interacting with all parts of it. Pick your own corn, play in a grocery store, go fishing, make your own machine, milk a cow, collect eggs & corn & so much more! Being in the middle of farm country, Hands-on House has numerous exhibits that show off the great local agricultural community.

There is room to explore outside too, so I'd recommend packing a lunch to enjoy outside if the weather is nice. Once you walk in the museum, you head directly to your left to begin your day of fun. We usually park our stroller & diaper bag there & just carry or wear LittleBear throughout, which seems to be the easiest way to go with a small infant.
It's not only a great place for a family visit, but they also hold birthday parties too! Before planning your visit, check their calendar to see if there is a class or drop-in you'd like to participate in. We've done the 'shakers' there and really enjoyed it. Classes require pre-registration so you'll want to make sure to do that!

Open Tues-Thurs: 11a-4p, Fri: 11a-8p, Sat: 10a-5p, Sun: 12p-5p (closed Mondays), Hands-on House is a great place to escape the cold/rain/heat, or just to head for an awesome family day! Admission is $8.50/person and can be paid at the museum right as soon as you walk in.
A few general tips:
- your family is responsible for cleaning up whatever dress up clothes, corn, fishing rods, etc you get out to play with
- there must be at least one adult for every 4 kids
- supervision is provided by you, not the museum
- geared for kids ages 2-10, but older & younger kids will have fun too
- your admission is good all day (you can leave for lunch & come back, no problem)
- air conditioned & wheel chair accessible
- both women & mens bathrooms have changing tables
